Caritas Wertarbeit’s print shop in Cologne (Germany), CariPrint, is optimizing its business and production processes with the print business management software Keyline. The application, which was developed by Crispy Mountain, covers printing companies’ entire value chain. CariPrint’s decision was based not only on Keyline’s performance and openness, but also on its simple and intuitive operation.
Caritas Wertarbeit is part of the Caritas Association for the City of Cologne, Germany. The CariPrint print shop employs people with mental and physical impairments and enables them to participate in social life.
CariPrint offers the entire service range of a print shop, from consulting and design to prepress, and from production to finishing. Long runs are printed on multicolor offset presses from Heidelberg. Shorter runs are produced digitally on a Ricoh press. Finishing is done on modern folding machines and a booklet-making system.
Better ease of use than the competition
CariPrint’s previous software was no longer suitable for processing numerous print orders with small and medium runs; the creation and administration of jobs simply took too much time. CariPrint therefore decided to replace its outdated system. During the evaluation phase, project manager Norman Nerger tested another system in addition to Keyline but said, “Its operation was so complicated that it was simply out of the question.”
Fast processing makes CariPrint more competitive
CariPrint was not disappointed when it placed all its hopes on Keyline. “The streamlining of our administrative processes and the rapid entry of print jobs creates more time at the press. This allows us to increase our capacity and hold our own against the competition,” says Daniel Sutorius, Production Manager at CariPrint. “Keyline schedules our jobs automatically on the machines. We are given the most efficient sequence and are therefore more productive on the road.”
Norman Nerger adds that “Keyline is our digital job bag. Job updates are instantly visible in the office and on all iPads in production. No information is lost and all data is available anytime, anywhere.”
Openness is a prerequisite for automation
Keyline’s automation capabilities and its ability to integrate with other systems take process efficiency to a new level. The paper required for the orders is retrieved from Keyline in the warehouse or can be ordered directly from the supplier.
An important prerequisite for this is Keyline’s openness. “Keyline can be regarded as a huge interface,” says Norman Nerger. Keyline can also be connected to the MICOS merchandise management system, an integrated software solution designed especially for social institutions, which further reduces the administrative effort.
Keyline’s openness will also play an important role as CariPrint plans to implement a web-to-print solution.
“We are very pleased to be able to support CariPrint with Keyline to bring their printer management up to date and increase competitiveness,” says Sebastian Krüger, Sales Manager at Crispy Mountain.
