Thanks to Keyline, LONGO Germany efficiently masters even micro print runs

The German branch of media services provider LONGO is entirely focused on digital printing. Thanks to our print business management software Keyline, the team keeps track of the large number of jobs with small and smallest print runs.

LONGO divides its print load between two facilities. High-volume offset printing orders are executed at the headquarters in South Tyrol, while runs of up to 1,000 copies are printed digitally at the German branch in Augsburg.

The company no longer identifies itself solely as a pure printing company, but as a provider of a broad range of media services. In addition to the most varied print products, LONGO’s portfolio also includes producing promotional products, online marketing and more.

30 Corporate Printing Portals

In addition to its conventional commercial printing business, LONGO Deutschland operates corporate printing portals for 30 customers. They are based on the Magento shop system and support the individual business processes of each customer in their corporate design.

LONGO’s customer´s employees select from the portals’ standardized print products, including business cards, forms, flyers, brochures and much more. “Our customers optimize their print procurement through these portals and at the same time ensure consistent branding,” said Helfried Prünster, Managing Director of LONGO Germany.

The challenge here are the often very small print runs. According to Prünster, customers sometimes order just a single copy in what the team describes as very small or even micro runs. Such tiny runs would not be economically feasible without highly efficient processes.

Added to this is the wide range of substrates. LONGO Deutschland, for example, also offers printing on PET material, films, fabric or metal – this variety also needs to be managed.

Keyline covers it all

Managing such processes was the domain of classic MIS systems. LONGO Germany also used such a solution, but it was much too slow and cumbersome. Two employees were required to enter orders manually. In addition, mapping the entire process “end-to-end” from order acceptance to production, shipping and post-calculation was not possible.

With its holistic approach covering all stages of the printing industry value chain, Keyline is quite different. Because of its open architecture, Keyline can be easily integrated with other applications and machines.

Live test was eye-opening

Since Keyline is cloud-based, the team at LONGO was able to put Keyline through its paces with full functionality right after setting up an account. “It was a real ‘wow’ effect for us that we were able to set up functioning processes with Keyline after only two days,” Prünster remembers.  Keyline’s simple structure and ease of use were also strong selling points.
